Instagram is hoping to take advantage of it’s 25 million+ business accounts by launching a standalone app called ‘IG Shopping’, and this is all based on a report released on the Verge. One would easily discern that this is due to the presence of more than 25 million businesses that use the platfrom to operate and about 2 million of them happen to be advertisers.
This will be so cool, because with this method, products will be displayed and customers can also follow it and best of all, purchases can be done directly on the App. But this is still a work in progress as there is no yet any indication as to when this App will be launched. Instagram has also not any official announcement of this App but the source is so sure that this is a verified info and so, this eCommerce foray is a done deal.
This is not so bad, leveraging on your strength is a good business strategy and Instagram has chosen this part;leveraging on their large membership. Hope this really help them achieve what they are aiming at. Merchants on the Instagram platform will receive support from Facebook on designing their storefront on the IG Shopping app and displaying their ware. The app could take on Shopify head-on and gain competitive edge.
The revenue model will be built on the basis of the tools being supplied by service providers like Four Sixty. They help those advertising on Instagram with creating photo galleries and content moderation so that they can easily sell their products. Shopify already has the provision to promote Instagram-based businesses on its site through plug-ins.
Instagram is not a newbie when it comes to offering shopping experience to users as they have been involved in it before and right now, is even working on a new feature which allows users to shop shop from Instagram Stories. This is not all to what Instagram is cooking up as there are also other plans like; launching a messaging App and also the launch of IGTV, another Attempt to take on YouTube
